San Francisco Bankruptcy Filings Increase
According to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California, consumer bankruptcy filings (Chapter 7 and Chapter 13) have increased substantially over the last year. For the month of May 2009, Chapter 7 filings almost doubled to 236 over last May, when only 143 filings were recorded. Chapter 13 filings increased from 57 to 102 for the same period. This trend is likely to continue into the near future, as more debtors decide to pursue bankruptcy as the most effective debt relief option.
